Blood Legion: Adamantine Chronicles Book Two Page 4

What’s a man to do? His duty of course, and I rolled over, pinned down her tight curvy and perfectly proportional sexy body, and did exactly that, to both of our delight. I took her hard and fast, mercilessly, and wildly. The lust and wildness in her eyes must’ve been echoed in mine, because she made me lose total control with her dirty mouthed encouragement, and the sweet sounds of feminine pleasure that fell from her lips. The harder I fucked her, the wilder she got as she squirmed and thrust up into me, as she begged me to fuck her harder and give her my cum. My Alyssa, my wild sex pot, it was a hell of a night.

Conversely, when I held her close, and cradled her against me for sleep, I’d never felt such a heart stirring tenderness toward her. As if our wild nasty coupling had brought it out. She looked so loving and content, as she whispered her love for me, and said goodnight before closing her eyes, and she rested her head on my shoulder and sighed in deep warm contentment. I was a blessed man.

  Chapter Four

Friday morning’s workout was interesting. Carol looked fine, thanks to her super metabolism, but Tina’s more normal body was obviously suffering from a hangover. It got me to thinking about the conversation last night, and it was during that workout I came to terms with a few things.

I understood before of course, she did need friends, girls she could spend time with. That just made sense, and it was healthy. But I came to terms with it during that workout as well, that she wouldn’t always be around me anymore, but I hoped she’d keep coming to my bed, and we’d still have time together too.

Still, it said a few things to me.

I remembered my college days, when I’d turned eighteen. I was twenty-four now, and while I enjoyed a few drinks on occasion my serious party days were over for the most part, and all the stupid shit I did in college was behind me. She was young though, just eighteen, and I had a feeling girl’s night out wouldn’t be just once a week like for a healthy married couple that had already gotten past that phase. She was young, and she needed to grow and play, as an adult. That meant I’d probably be sharing a lot of her time, not just sometimes.

I resigned myself to the fact I’d be with her in bed at nights, and maybe spend a few hours with her a night, three to four nights a week. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be around. Perhaps I was wrong, but I couldn’t get angry at her for it. I also figured it was better to expect that, and to be pleasantly surprised and happy when she was around more, rather than be annoyed when she wasn’t.

After all, I was the moron who fell in love with an eighteen-year-old, a woman six years younger, and I’d have to suck it up. If I tried to control her, push her to spend more time with me instead, then that would backfire, and I’d lose her. I didn’t want that, and I didn’t want to truly control her anyway, I’d just have to miss her when she wasn’t around, which was the lesser of two evils. My Alyssa was magnificent. I’d be the lucky one, if she chose to stay with me.

The fantastic and wild sex was the least of that, she was truly dazzling and enthralling. Most of all, her obvious love, boundless trust, admiration, and deep desire to be with me is what blew my mind. I wanted her for life, or for as long as she’d have me, whatever came to an end first, and I obviously hoped for the former.

She turned her head, and gave me a smugly pleased smile, and I knew I’d been staring again. It happened, it was what I did subconsciously when my mind was lost in thought. My eyes sought her out on their own. She looked fantastic of course, and wore her white Lycra skin-tight shorts, and a half shirt. But really, the draw there was the way her light dirty blonde hair shone in the sun, although the movements of her petite athletic sexy body were certainly a factor.

I winked playfully, and she blushed and looked forward. I loved that, how I could still make her blush, despite how she almost made me blush with her sensuous boldness and dirty talk, when we were in bed together.

One thing was for sure, she was a wonderful and complicated woman.

It was a little bit later, at breakfast, when I brought it up.

  “Should we talk about schedules?”

Tina shrugged, “I wouldn’t mind keeping to my old one. Sunday and Monday off? Carol and Alyssa can take Friday and Saturday? Tuesday through Thursday we’ll do ten to six, and they’ll get the later patrol.”

We all exchanged glances, and no one looked opposed to that idea. Except of course, my weekend night dates with the love of my life were about to become girl’s nights out. But I sucked that up, the day of the week wouldn’t matter, and I’d have her around enough. I was twenty-four, and I wasn’t about to start acting like a jealous and smitten teen boy, even if a part of me did feel that way.

  “That works for me.”

Alyssa smirked, “I guess I have a day off then.”

She threw me an apologetic look that was even a bit sad. Perversely, that made me feel a bit better about it, that she’d realized I wouldn’t be spending the next two days with her, and she’d miss it as much as I would.

Yeah, it was Friday morning. Fun times.

Carol said, “We can do something, after Daniel and I train, if you want.”

  Alyssa smiled gratefully, “Sounds good.”

I was happy for her, at least her partner would be her friend, I think that more than anything else is what had me bothered. Not about or for her, me I mean. I was trading Alyssa’s company for none at all, and a cold shoulder from Tina when on patrol.

But life wasn’t fair, and I certainly didn’t begrudge her that, on the contrary it was going to be amazing to watch her flower and grow. I was just being a whiny bitch man and feeling sorry for myself.

Well, worse come to worst, I could always make friends outside of the building if Tina continued to hold me at arm’s length. That wasn’t easy for a hero, but it would kill some time, and it was better than sticking my head in the sand and moping.

It was about three in the afternoon, our second patrol wasn’t any more promising than the first had been, but I followed my own advice and gave her the space she wanted. She at least talked to me about the work, if it was relevant at the time anyway. Otherwise I let her be for the day, outside of choosing a place to stop for lunch.

I tried my best not to take it personally, it seemed to be all men.

She was surprisingly sweet and kind, when she spoke to fans that approached, the females and children anyway. Her voice was incredibly alluring, sensual, and compelling, even when she wasn’t singing. Even when she spoke coldly to me, that effect wasn’t entirely absent. I shouldn’t have been surprised, I just wasn’t used to seeing her in that light.

I also couldn’t blame her for blowing off most of the males, who were clearly just there to see her enormous tits and gracefully lithe body up close and in her sexy super outfit. Obviously, they weren’t doing me any favors. Not all of them certainly, but the men who weren’t shallow weren’t approaching in the first place. I don’t think she noticed all those respectful men at all, just the few assholes up close. It was a blind spot, even if those shallow horndog men were obviously only a very small percentage of the population, she couldn’t seem to see the rest.

  I don’t know, I wasn’t a psychologist.

Jenna said, “I got an address for you, major disturbance, house is being wrecked, clearly a super doing it.”

She gave us the address, which was in the suburbs right outside the main part of the city, but still within city limits. She rolled her eyes just to make sure I understood she didn’t like it one bit, as she stepped against me and put her arm around my armor.

I wrapped my arm around her waist, extended my gravity and inertial compensator fields, then rocketed up into the sky. I didn’t have to hold her tightly, just enough so that she didn’t float away, the fields took care of the rest.

Rose put the address and flight path on my HUD, and I moved us that way quickly.

  “Do we know anything?”

Rose replied, “Only that there’s a sixteen-year-old girl living there. Mara Barnes, only child. Mother
is stay at home, and the step-father works at a casino as a dealer.”

Red Siren grimaced, “She must’ve popped for some reason. Abuse?”

Rose said, “Unknown, searching. The police have been called several times for domestic disturbance, but no charges were ever brought.”

Red Siren sighed, “That was fast.”

Rose replied, “Thank you. I endeavor to be so.”

Red Siren asked, “Did an A.I. just tease me?”

I nodded, “She’s quirky that way. Her work is exemplary, but her sense of humor and personality are interesting at times.”

I left off the part where that was my fault, I’d made her after all. Besides, I didn’t mind, if she could have fun and even enjoy herself, more the better. I didn’t want a boring slave, or any kind of slave at all.

Rose replied privately, “Thank you for that. I’d kiss you if I could.”

  Really?

  Rose replied, “Nope.”

I laughed as I set us down outside the house, which creaked alarmingly as part of the roof was blown off, and then we heard a panicked feminine scream.

My amusement disappeared quickly, and I shared what my scanners could determine.

“S-class, psionic in nature, and obviously at least telekinetic. She’s relatively weak right now, and clearly out of control, but she has a ton of potential. Let’s go save her, shall we?”

Tina gave me a weird look, and I marched toward the house.

“Mara?” I called out in question, as I entered the house.

“Go away! I can’t stop it.”

I walked in the direction of her voice, which appeared to be coming from the back of the house, with Tina following in a strangely subdued way in my wake.

We got to the kitchen. It was a typical two story three-bedroom home, middle class. The kitchen was fairly large, twenty by twelve at a guess, and Mara stood there with wide eyes and a look of horror in her eyes. She had reddish blonde hair, light blue eyes, and like most supers would be a knock out in a few years.

She also stood over her step-father’s corpse, with a desperate look of denial on her young face.

Mara screamed, “Leave! I didn’t mean it!” and tears ran down her face.

“Mara, calm down and look at me. Nowhere else, just me. You can’t hurt me. I promise.”

She had a hell of a lot of potential, but my shields were at full strength and so was my personal power. And she’d been losing control and using her power, the house was a wreck, with holes in the walls, the ceiling, and shit was scattered all over. She didn’t have much power left, not nearly enough to break my shields. I even upped my stasis, so she couldn’t even move me.

Her eyes widened, “What’s going to happen to me?”

“We’re going to teach you how to control it, what happened here?”

Her eyes widened, and my shields took a huge hit in that moment.

I said softly, “Whatever it is, we’ll believe you. He must’ve done something, or you wouldn’t have quickened.”

Her eyes narrowed slightly, and then filled with more tears as they streaked down her face.

I wondered why the hell Tina was being so quiet, and when I turned my head around, I found her staring at me like she’d never seen me before.

Whatever, I didn’t have time for our brand of drama right now.

“Mara, you’re an S-class. Telekinetic, and you also have a shield. I’m not sure what else yet, but you can control it, you just need to control your mind. Unlike other supers, a psionic super needs to stay in control of their thoughts.”

She hit me again with a telekinetic punch, I just ignored it. As long as she was looking at me, she wasn’t destroying the house, or anyone else. Although, Tina’s shields were strong enough too.

Her head turned slightly, but it snapped back when I told her to look at me again.

  “What happened?”

The question hung there for a long time, as she stared helplessly at me. If he wasn’t dead, I’d have seriously considered making him that way.

She shuddered, “My stepfather, used me. It wasn’t the first time.”

  “In the kitchen?”

She shook her head in confusion, “We were upstairs, I don’t know how I got down here. He ran down after me, screaming. That’s… when it happened.”

  Holy shit.

“Well, I guess you’re a telekinetic, shield, and teleporter.”

  She said, “So?”

I explained in a soft voice, “So, with hero work being limited to a team a city, being a teleporter means you have a very lucrative career ahead of you if you want. Teleporters make huge amounts of money, for instant deliveries across the globe. Even travel. Beyond that, you can go anywhere you want, as long as you’ve been there before. I imagine there might even be more you’ll be capable of. Psionics is a varied talent.”

It was the truth, but I said it mostly just to get her to focus on something, and to calm down. I wasn’t joking about the money either, she’d make more in a legit business in the private sector than she could if she went supervillain. Not that she looked like the supervillain type, she was obviously horrified by what she’d done, despite what he’d done.

She tilted her head, “I won’t go to jail?”

I shook my head, “They won’t even bother to try and prosecute you. If he wasn’t endangering your life you wouldn’t have quickened, and none of this would have happened. The DA knows that, he won’t even try. It’s an open and shut case of self-defense. Of course, what happens next is important. Where’s your mother?”

Mara replied, “She’s at the store, he doesn’t… not when she’s here.”

Right. Bastard deserved it, but I couldn’t exactly say that.

“You seem calmer, you haven’t even hit me in like, two whole minutes,” I said jokingly.

She laughed, but it was a hollow and joyless laugh, haunted.

I said, “It won’t happen again, you can stop it now.”

That statement just hung there a moment.

  Mara asked, “What happens now?”

I replied, “Training, we’ll get you set up with someone that can teach you control. Your powers should be easy to use, at least on purpose, it’s the not using them part that takes control. There are several places right in the city that would be pleased to train you, and they’ll be clamoring to hire you in the private sector. I don’t know if that kind of thing matters to you, but you’ll be a millionaire before your old enough to vote.”

They’d also evaluate her home life, if the mother knew about the abuse, she’d lose the kid for sure, but I left that part off for the moment, that was for the cops and child services to figure out.

As if to test that theory, that it would be easy to do it on purpose, her eyes flickered to the counter, and a cutting board rose up into the air, then it blinked out and appeared in her hand. She still looked shocked, but there was a look of wonder on her face as well.

  “Did you hear his thoughts?”

She looked at me, and then shook her head and shivered.

“Emotions,” she admitted reluctantly, with a disturbed look on her face, “He was evil, but I really didn’t mean to kill him, just stop him.”

I nodded, and I suspected that was her whole powerset. Empathy, a shield, telekinesis, and teleportation. Of course, she’d be a flyer too, if only through her own telekinesis.

  “Why can’t I feel yours?”

I replied, “Shields, the same reason your telekinesis didn’t hurt me.”

Powers usually came in fours at A-class and even S-class where one of those were absolute, S-class supers with five or more talents were extremely rare. Although, ever since the alien ship dumped more of that alien-energy into the core of our planet on accident, the number of S-class supers quickening with four abilities had gone up by a lot, while the D and C classes had dropped by a lot. Still, at full power Mara would be a match for me, Myriad, or Red Siren, and we were all powerful. Perhaps even more so, it was har
d to estimate her full potential when her proverbial tank was so empty in power.

Fortunately, Alyssa’s level of power was still unheard of outside of herself. Although, I imagined it was just a matter of time before another human meta-energy reactor started to walk about the planet. I prayed they’d be as gracious, kind, and responsible with the power as my lovely Alyssa was.

I said, “I’m Daniel, by the way. Adamantine. This is Red Siren behind me. We’ll just hang out, until your mom gets home, or we can go now to get that training started, if you’re afraid you might hurt her?”

The blood drained from her face, and her eyes widened, but she didn’t hit me again. Progress already, probably because the adrenaline surge had worked itself out, and she was no longer in a fight or flight mode.

She said, “No, take me now, please? I don’t want to risk it.”

Rose informed us, “Police units are out front, and waiting for the all clear.”

I nodded, “Let’s go out the back. Have you ever flown with a geek who was trying to be cool wearing an armored suit?”

  She giggled, “You’re weird.”

I grunted, and shook my head sadly, “People keep saying that, all the time.”

She laughed, “Yes, let’s go,” and then looked guiltily down at the corpse, with other conflicted emotions on her face. Perhaps the guilty look was for the laugh, but that’s what I’d been going for. I wasn’t even going to try to understand what she felt taking down that abusing asshole, or about what he’d done to her then and in the past. He’d no doubt deserved it, but she didn’t deserve to live with it, whatever it felt like.

She turned and walked through the wall into her backyard. The hole in the wall, I mean.

We followed, and Red Siren smiled as she went into my arm, but of course that smile wasn’t for my sake, it was for Mara’s.

Mara looked tentative, and a little unsure, but she grabbed on, and I extended the fields around them both and took them into the sky.

I said, “Rose, give the police the all-clear,” without letting my voice outside the suit.
