I am sorry for that, I should have been more vigilant, but it had been ninety thousand years and I was tired. If I had tried to warn you one of the Sprisi would have found Earth. I had no choice but to let it play out. I was already too old to rush off to the rescue, and I feared telling you back then might have doomed the universe. I know what you did. At least our race will go on in the future. It is also not too late for Anise or Sylvia, so have hope.”

  Bill asked hope in his voice, “So there is a way to defeat them without killing the host? How?”

  Vino said, “Patience. I will get to it all. As you already know a hundred thousand years ago they invaded the universe like a plague, possessing all the races and leaving misery in their wake. They do in fact feed on misery, pain and despair. All the dark emotions.”

  Bill looked unconvinced, how could something live on misery?

  Vino continued, “As you already suspected, it was a Dravii and Human alliance that defeated them. As you also probably guessed there were issues with it and steps were taken to keep humanity separated from the rest of the civilized universe. Only partially to keep the Humans safe from the Sprisi. We were unable to find their home world. There is more to the story but it will have to wait until I get there, it is a complicated tale and jumping around will only make it more confusing.”

  Ariella said, “We already had a good idea about all of that, we need to know how they were defeated.”

  Vino said, “My story is long young elder and these beings are tired, I picked a bad time to come up here. We can speak more on it tomorrow.”

  Vino didn’t bother to say that he still wasn’t sure if he would share the solution. The danger could be much worse if he does. He did decide he liked this human though.
