  Then again, at this point she didn’t need to.

  The golden light snapped off, and he looked through the canopy of the small ship, and into an airlock. Hopefully that meant the ship had been built, but it seemed wise to ask before he cracked the canopy.

  “Status?”

  Chrystal replied, “Fully operational, and the atmosphere has equalized with the shuttle’s. You can come inside of me whenever you’re ready Mike.”

He also knew there were four power cores to power it, for redundancy. He touched the wall, and it was perfectly smooth.

  He could hardly believe he’d done it. They’d done it, he corrected himself. A fully built ship, capable of FTL, and as strong, or stronger, than any ship in the A.I. fleet.

  In five minutes.

  Well, eight years and five minutes, but the next one will just take five minutes.

  The timber in that mostly familiar voice, had been richer, a little sultry, and obviously not generated by a speaker.

  He turned his head, and took in her android form. It wasn’t like his, he had his core matrix inside of his android, hers was just an android she could take over and remote control. All the senses would be there for her, as if she were really in the body. But her mind was housed on this ship. Quantum connections would ensure no latency in her perceptions, no matter how far from the ship her body got.

  Trudy of course, was the scientist in the family, and he was sure she was here about the ship, but one problem at a time.

  He explained, “She’s an amalgam of three different A.I. templates. Mostly security and medical, with a touch of engineer. She is her own person, and this came as much of a surprise to the two of us as it does you.”

  His family was kind of large, his father had ten wives, six A.I.s and four humans. He had a boatload of human brothers and sisters, eleven to be exact, not to mention aunts, uncles, and grandparents, but he was the only A.I. that had been created from family matrices. The ships matter/energy converter had a five-mile reach, which would be the ultimate limit of the size of ship it could make. Still, he didn’t have any designs that were ten miles long, or even five, since that seemed like overkill.

  Regardless, the ship was orbiting just under five miles above them, so it was in range.

  A couple of roses formed and fell into his hand a few seconds later, and he handed one to each. Then smiled.

  Mia narrowed her eyes, but smiled despite herself.

  “Chrystal, how about we have a talk?” she asked.
